Scope and Contents
Building Electronic Communities: An Artist's Inquiry into the World Wide Web, with The Andy Warhol Museum and Center for Arts Management and Technology (CAMT) at the Heinz School for Public Policy and Management, Carnegie Mellon (1998 – 1999) By STUDIO Fellow, Carolyn P. Speranza
Dates
- 1992-2001
Biographical / Historical
In 1995, Speranza approached her alopecia hair loss medical condition with a process of visualization in the Depth Gage and Web Gage series: a web site poem that was an artwork in and of itself; a sculptural art installation that included a series pf projections, Jell-O, neon and steel; a video wall piece with hair castings in resin "holes" presented to viewers on glass shelves; a glowing, white neon body floating on the wall joined by a series of hand-made light canisters on electrical timers. These canisters illuminate plastic, tinted, flesh-images on discs. Included is an Artist Statement for this series.
The Depth Gage and Web Gage series was funded by a Faculty Research and creative Endeavors grant (Central Michigan University) with additional support from West Virginia University and Sculpture Space, Inc.
